Division of the genres and directions of the fine arts is very conditional and devoted to the definite time period. In fact the paintings of every talented artist are unique. We can see the points of belonging to different styles and directions. There exists a classification for art-judgers and it is suitable to match artists with the directions. There are some directions of fine arts which are not named on this page, for example, neoclassicism, metaphysical painting, postimpressionism, etc.

Neoclassicism appeared in the 18th century. It was connected with the growth of the interest to the antique arts. Artists of this direction follow the dramatic style. They have an idea of the deification of all the antique things. Jan-Lois David became the most popular representative of this direction.

Postimpressionism is a general name of the directions in fine arts which did not recognize some basic principles of the impressionism. It appeared at the end of the 19th century, when the crisis of the impressionism began. The artists who had been told to be impressionists tried to find new ways of expressing their ideas on the opposite to existing rules. Van Gog and Gogen are among the most famous persons who founded the direction.

The founder of metaphysical painting is de Kirko. It appeared at the beginning of the 20th century in connecting with returning to the classical canons of painting. Its main principles are “the metaphor and the dream”, the contrast between the exact image of an object and strange environment where the object is put to.
